Pioneers Take On Ponca City In Homecoming Game
Stillwater, Okla.— Homecoming week has arrived in Stillwater. The Pioneers head into this week’s matchup against the Ponca
City Wildcats following a tough loss to Mustang. The Pioneers (0-3) will look to bounce back from a performance against the
Broncos in which they started off strong but faded down the stretch.
The Pioneers have posted some decent offensive numbers so far this season. Quarterback Braxton Noble has led the way for a
Stillwater team that is averaging 27.3 points per game, throwing for an average of almost 200 yards while completing nearly 56
percent of his passes. The offense is averaging 159.6 rushing yards per game.
Wide Receivers Brandon Prather and King Williams have both come up with a number of big plays and the Pioneers haven’t had
much trouble running the ball with running back Marlon McDonald when they’ve needed to.
On the defensive side, they have been able to force turnovers, as evidenced by the three interceptions they had in the first half of
last week’s game – it’s been finishing games on that side of the ball where they’ve struggled, as pointed out by some players and
coaches following the loss to Mustang. They have been averaging a forced 7 interceptions this season and 71.2 tackles per
Ponca City (0-3) didn’t fare much in their game last week, falling to the visiting Shawnee Wolves 35-0. The Wildcats have
struggled mightily on offense so far this season, averaging just under 7 points per game. That’s good news for Stillwater; who is
searching for their first win as they open up district play against the Wildcats on homecoming night.
