Pioneers Open Season With Big Win Over Deer Creek
The Pioneers opened up the season against the Deer Creek Antlers, where they started off hot when QB Braxton Noble threw a
65-yard touchdown pass to WR Brandon Prather on the opening drive to take a 7-0 lead.
"I was feeling really good," Prather said. "I was excited coming into tonight, especially playing against their corners. I was just
glad they got me the ball."
The defense was stout in its first possession as well forcing the Antlers to a three-and-out. Despite the hot start on both sides of
the ball, the Pioneers gave the ball back on a muffed punt.
The Antlers then scored on a third-and-goal touchdown pass from QB Clayton Sims to tie the game.
The Pioneers looked to take the lead back on the next drive but the drive was halted just short of the goal line when Pioneer RB
Cameron Mayberry fumbled the ball on the 5-yard line.
Stillwater took the lead back when Noble threw his second touchdown pass again to receiver Prather for 55-yards to go up 14-7.
Mayberry would later redeem himself leading the Pioneers down the field, where he would eventually score on a 1-yard
touchdown run to go up 21-7.
"They knew our game plan involved a lot of running so I'm sure it came as no surprise to them," Mayberry said. "We did a great
job of opening holes and I was able to find them."
The Pioneer defense made a statement with a goal line stand to end the first half.
Deer Creek would cut the lead to seven when Sims scored on an 8-yard touchdown run.
After an hour and a half rain delay the Pioneer offense came out strong ending the drive on another touchdown pass from Noble,
this time throwing to WR Jordan Brown on a 40-yard pass to go up 27-14 after the missed PAT.
The Pioneers put the game away in the fourth quarter when Mayberry scored from the 1-yard line on his 2nd touchdown of the
night to extend the lead 33-14.
Just when things couldn't get any worse for the Antlers, they fumbled the kickoff leading to another score for the Pioneers. Noble
would score again, this time on a 1-yard run continuing the rout 40-14.
The Pioneers went onto win the game with the final score of 40-27.
