Players Of The Week: Deer Creek
Each Thursday after practice the Pioneer football players gather for a time of food and fellowship provided by the Touchdown Club
or local sponsors. Several player parents attend weekly to serve the meal to players and coaches. Following the meal one of the
coaches or other invited speaker shares a time of mentorship with the team members covering a wide array of topics, but always
aimed at developing character and leadership within the group of young men.
This season the football Pioneers are working through a character development curriculum. The coaches have committed to this
by spending 10-15 minutes per day of practice time on this. Coach Barnard says he believes "this may be the single most
important thing we can do for our players. We coach them hard and expect a lot from them. But this is a time when we can get
real, talk about real issues in their lives and help them grow as young men. We always relate the time and stories used back to
football, but these are not really talks about football. They are designed to help our players learn and understand authentic
manhood. How to be a better son, teammate, boyfriend, and eventual husband and father."
Also each Thursday, the staff names the Players of the Week from the previous week and spends a few minutes recognizing
outstanding player effort and performance.
The week 1 (vs. Deer Creek) players of the week are:
Offense - Brandon Prather
Special Teams - Marlon McDonald III
Outstanding Lineman - Noah Jackson
Defense - Tim Swinford
The week 2 players of the week (vs. Mustang) will be announced at this Thursday's meal.
