Gearing Up For Spring Football
The weather is heating up. To Pioneer football players that signals that preparations are about to begin for spring and summer
football. Players have been giving great effort in the weight room this offseason, focusing on gaining mass and strength. Coaches
Trent Worley and Chad Cawood have led the weight room effort and have seen some significant gains by players. As we draw
nearer to the opening of spring football practice, additional efforts have been placed on increasing aerobic capacity through
running and other activities including wrestling workouts with the Pioneer wrestling team and Coach Neil Erisman.
Starting Monday May 19th and continuing through May 31st the varsity football players will be allowed to participate in full
padded practices in preparation for their summer team camps and other summer competitions. Anticipation is high for the
Pioneer players and coaches. Coach Tucker Barnard said "We can't wait to get out and get started. Throwing, catching,
blocking, tackling, all those fundamental things that we do, to get the chance to get out and see how the kids have progressed,
how they've improved, grown, gotten stronger....It's just a really exciting time." Coach Barnard says the team and coaching staff
has high expectations going into to the 2014-15 season, "absolutely, we expect to win. We do a lot of things, there are a lot of
things that are important -we want to develop character, produce young men that are going to one day be leaders and mentors in
their communities. But we also want to win - that's important too, and that's what we are going to do."
